Access Control Systems
for Michigan Facilities

Control Access to Your Building

Protecting your facility from unauthorized access is a critical priority for any business. Whether safeguarding sensitive data, securing restricted areas, or controlling who enters and exits your building, the risks associated with building access management can lead to costly breaches, internal theft, and operational disruptions.

How does Access Control work?

Below, we’ve outlined a simple example of what access control looks like in a practical sense.

You are the facility manager for a high school. Five main types of people enter and leave your building. To enter certain areas of the building an individual will present their credential.

Students

Students do not need special access to the building or any of its rooms, so you don’t give them key cards. Instead, you leave the outer doors of the building unlocked from 7:00-8:00 AM and 3:00-5:00 PM (when they arrive and leave school).

Teachers

Because some teachers work late and lead after-school activities, they need access to the building and their classrooms around the clock. You grant them this access from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Administrative Staff

Just like the teachers, some administrative staff members work late or have other commitments on campus after school hours. As such, they need access to the building and their offices from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Janitorial

Responsible for cleaning the entire building, the janitorial staff needs access to all areas of the building every hour of the day.

Visitors

Guest key cards can be created for these persons with limited access and are deactivated after a set time.

Frequently Asked Questions: Business Access Control

  • What type of access control system is best for my business?

The best access control system for your business depends on your facility’s size, security needs, and budget. Options range from simple key card systems to advanced card readers, biometric scanners, or mobile credentialing. Cloud-based systems with centralized control are ideal for managing multiple locations or complex user access requirements.

  • Can I manage the system remotely?

While not all access control solutions provide this capability, modern access control systems often include cloud-based or networked options that allow you to manage access remotely. You can add or revoke permissions, monitor activity, and receive alerts from anywhere through a secure platform.

  • What makes access control better than a traditional lock and key?

Access control offers greater security and flexibility than traditional locks. Unlike keys, credentials can’t be easily copied and can be revoked immediately if lost or stolen. Access control systems also provide detailed records of who accessed specific areas and when… helping you monitor activity and improve accountability.
